Recently I moved from Bangalore to Chennai and brought my two-wheeler along with me.
Since I had plans to keep my bike permanently in Chennai I liked to get it re-registered here.
It's hell of an experience to go to various govt. offices and get things done in India.
Thought I could share my experiences here so that it may be useful for someone out there!
Checklist for re-registration:
1) Change of address & re-regulation
Form 20, 27 (in duplicate), 33 (in duplicate)
2) Transfer of ownership & Re-registration - (This was not needed for me as it is my own bike)
Form 20, 27 (in duplicate), 39 (in duplicate), 30
3) HPN or HPA (NOC from Financier) - (This was not needed for me as I didn't get finance)
4) Original RC Book
5) FORM-28 (NOC from the state where bike was registered earlier)
6) Vehicle insurance (duly changed to chennai address)
7) Address proof (Ration card OR Passport OR Voter ID OR LIC Policy)
8) Entry tax clearance certificate (from commercial tax office)
9) Undertaking - Affidavit from Notary Public
10) Police clearance certificate (From Crime Branch Egmore, Chennai)
11) PAN Card
12) Emission certificate
13) Vehicle invoice
14) A photo of the owner standing near his vehicle (!)
15) 3 passport size photos
All these should be submitted to the RTO Chennai and a fee of Rs 50 should be paid.
Then one should pay the Road Tax and get in entered in the RC Book.
For "Entry Clearance Certificate" :
1) a letter addressing to commissioner/Assist. Commissioner CT Department describing the reason for bringing the vehicle into the state and need for entry tax certificate
2) vehicle invoice xerox
3) insurance xerox
4) RC Book xerox
5) DD for the tax
